Uganda has officially started installing a new music tracking system known as “Nyange” across bars, hotels, and entertainment venues. The device is designed to monitor songs played in public spaces and record data used for royalty distribution.
According to the Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF), the system will ensure artists are paid fairly based on actual usage of their music. The technology captures real-time data and sends it to a central system for analysis.
This development follows the implementation of strengthened copyright laws aimed at improving the creative economy and increasing earnings for local artists.
